For todays episode of my sewing for beginners video I am revisiting an older pattern of mine, the blouse poppy. But I did make a second version for this blouse, since I was always unhappy with the lack of a bust dart. Bust darts improve the fit for larger busts so much!
So in this video, you will learn ho to sew bust darts and facings.
Ok, the pattern "Poppy" is not exactly new. I developed it a few years ago - although I was never really happy with the fit back then. So I sat down and completely revised the pattern.
The new "Poppy" also has a version that takes into account the extra length across the bust - the fullness of the "bust dart" is moved to the front sleeve so you don't actually have to sew a dart.
Spring is coming and that means it's time for transitional clothes that can be layer well. This blouse is made of a wonderful red wool fabric and I once again filmed how I sewed the whole thing.
These are properly the first gatheres I have ever sewn. Weird, I could not imagine wearing something with gathered sleaves a short while ago. But I think I like it.
I'm working on some pretty complex patterns and kind of needed a break. So I thought: what is the simplest sewing pattern? Okay, I can think of several things. A skirt with an elastic waistband, for example. Ultimately, it became a blouse with kimono or bat sleeves. No closure, no dividing seams, no attached sleeves. The neckline is finished with a facing, but a bias tape is also possible, then you only have to cut out a single pattern piece.
Poppy is a nice cut for patterned fabrics, I think. You don't have to cut motifs apart.
